Hi Jennifer.
You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding here--that there are "bad apple" cops. That the majority of the police out there are good people who do good work.
However, modern policing in America is systematically broken. Cops spend fifteen times as long on physical maneuvers than they do on de-esclataion tactics. Due to a horrendous law called "qualified immunity", cops are basically immune from law, even when they abuse their power. Breonna Taylor was murdered by cops and they have not even been charged. It took four months for one of the murderers to be suspended.
There is also the Blue Wall of Silence, in which cops are not allowed to report each other's crimes.
I'm sure you know good people who wear the badge. But they work in a broken system that disproportionately harms black and brown men.
I've written several, several articles about the topic. I hope you read them and understand these perspectives.
