I see what you mean with Okja! I had to rewatch the film to catch the classic Bong influences (since there is just SO much going in with the film). For example, Bong LOVES playing with visual duality as a metaphor for capitalism (Snowpiercer’s left/right dynamic and Parasite’s up/down motif). In Okja, he represents this with color. The bright and colorful is a facade for the black that goes on behind the scenes (like the color contrasts between scenes throughout the film and also the two twins played by Tilda Swinton). I also noticed that basically every white character has an audible affect when they are presenting for cameras that differs from their real voice (esp. Jake Gyllenhal).

Overall, I loved how he uses color to portray how factory farming and consumerism have behind-the-scenes, unintended consequences of animal exploitation and police brutality. I’m working on an essay of Okja actually on medium — i’ll probably publish it later this month.
